On April 23, 2026, local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn in Phnom Penh.

Wang Yi extended congratulations on the success of the first meeting of China-Cambodia “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism between foreign and defense ministers, and appreciated Cambodia’s efforts in this regard. Wang Yi stated that in the face of a turbulent and changing international landscape and successive global challenges, it is timely for China and Cambodia, as a community with a shared future, to launch the mechanism. The meeting was fruitful and yielded important consensus, effectively advancing strategic coordination and deepening strategic mutual trust between the two sides. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to being long-term, reliable good friends and partners, and agreed to further elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level, adding new substance to the building of a China-Cambodia community with a shared future.

Wang Yi stated that China stands ready to work with Cambodia to implement the outcomes of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Cambodia last year and the important consensus reached with Cambodian leaders. Both sides should coordinate development and security, deepen all-around cooperation, and prioritize the construction of the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor”. The two countries should also expand exchanges in green industries, agricultural trade, finance, and youth sectors, thereby consolidating the public foundation of China-Cambodia friendship. Combating online gambling and telecom fraud is vital to the safety of people’s lives and property. Both sides must sustain cooperation and resolutely and thoroughly remove this cancer. Taking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and the 35th anniversary of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations as an opportunity, both sides should strengthen coordination under multilateral frameworks such as China-ASEAN cooperation and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation. China will continue to work in its own way to rebuild mutual trust and improve relations between Cambodia and Thailand, and is willing to provide more platforms for direct communication between the two countries.

Prak Sokhonn stated that the successful convening of the Cambodia-China “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism between foreign and defense ministers has enhanced mutual political trust and played an important role in deepening bilateral cooperation. Against the backdrop of a complex and evolving international situation, strengthening cooperation in political, security, and defense fields is of great significance. Cambodia-China friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and benefits both peoples. Cambodia appreciates China’s valuable support in areas such as infrastructure construction, clean energy, agriculture, and finance, and is willing to continue to deepen cooperation with China in various fields, resolutely combat online gambling and telecom fraud, and jointly resist external interference to safeguard their respective sovereignty, security, and development interests, so as to make more achievements in building an all-weather Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era. Prak Sokhonn briefed on the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, expressed gratitude for China’s mediation efforts, and looked forward to China playing a greater role.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
